Andria and I just got back from our first workshop at
Sew Memphis - wow! We had "sew" much fun! I anticipated we'd have 6 kids max, but 13 showed up ages 5-10.
One of the best parts was picking out the fabric. We got to choose fabrics from the Sew Memphis shelves - what a treat. Everyone sat around a big table which created a real community feel.
The project was the Your Little Friend from
Sewing School. It's a
favorite of ours and we thought it would be fun for the kids since it opens the door for creativity. They got to design their own faces and some even accessorized with clothing, hair bows, and jewelry.
Moms and grandmothers also got into the act and sewed with their kids. Above is Sew Memphis's own Mary Allison with her son.
"Some parts of sewing are easy, but some are hard." Holden, 10. While most kids had been exposed to sewing, we had a couple of first-timers. As always, Andria love to see their confidence build as they sew.
Our first workshop was a ton of fun and a big success. We can't wait until make
My Very Own Skirt in August!
