Each student chose an Arctic animal to research and learn about. We talked a lot about the animals' habitats and how they keep warm.
I was so impressed with their habitat paintings. We used gray construction paper as the base and then put out blue, white, and brown paint. The kids have been talking about blending colors in art class and that really comes through in their work. After they completed the habitat, I gave them a cutout of their animal. I found the pictures on-line from various sources. The animals were carefully glued on and laid out to dry.
Such a great effect. I am thinking of all sorts of other ways to use this technique of adding a real photograph on top of a painting.

I love these. You are right that the photograph on top of the painting adds a really interesting effect. Well done, kids!
