The 5 Little Pumpkins Glove

You know the poem right?  "Five little pumpkins, sitting on a gate.  The first one says, "Oh, my it's getting late."  The second one says..."

We always go over this for math - it's great for introducing ordinal numbers.  Plus, it's so much fun!  Usually, I have the kids draw the scene and I think one year we did finger puppets, but this year I had a new vision - The 5 Little Pumpkins Glove!

What you need:
1 glove per child (I got mine at Old Navy)
5 pumpkin foam pieces  (You could also make cute little pumpkins out of felt, but I couldn't imagine doing this right now with 18 kids!)
The project is super independent - you just stick 1 foam pumpkin to each finger.

I found that the foam pieces were a bit tricky to get the back off of which gave the kids some bonus fine motor skills practice.  Putting on the glove itself was another challenge for some.
Now you have five little pumpkins sitting on a gate!  Say the poem again and again!

This is such a good idea! We do this poem every year in preschool--will have to try this next year for sure! Thanks!
